August 2019 – Company Improvement by Commercial Director Karl Smith 05 Sep 2019
Continuous Improvement – The Longworth Way
August has been a very productive month at Longworth. Our Staff have lead the charge in introducing over 40 individual improvements to systems, processes and communications.
The Philosophy, otherwise known as ‘Kaizen’ promotes active participation from management and workers to develop and implement positive changes by making incremental improvements leading to marginal gains.
So far, the open forum meetings have been rolled out to Commercial, Procurement, Contracts, SHEQ and Site, with further Departments scheduled to have their first meetings in the near future.
The feedback, engagement and results have been a roaring success with many of the suggestions leading to tangible benefits saving time, costs and waste.
The meetings so far have been led by Commercial Director, Karl Smith;
“The Kaizen forums have been great. Every member of the team we have spoken with has come back with positive ideas to help us improve. Every positive change has led to an increased motivation and desire from the staff to make more suggestions. They can see that we are listening to their ideas and implementing them, so we are really gaining traction and making visible progress.”
It has been a challenging month trying to manage these meetings and develop the suggestions. We are already seeing huge benefits across the board so it’s definitely worth it. The short term target we’ve set across the business is to achieve 100 marginal gains. At the pace we’re going, I don’t think it will be long before we get there.”
The Philosophy supports the wider Longworth objective. We are trying to be the very best at what we do and we look forward to giving more updates on our progress in the near future.
